Westborough Lions Club raises thousands through charity tennis tournament

The Westborough Lions Club held its Fourth Annual Charity Tennis Tournament June 19 at Westborough High School.

The Swiss-style tournament awards individual titles based on the most number of games won in a doubles format.

Emily Karlin was the winner in the Women’s Division, according to a press release from the Lions Club, with 20 games won. Joyce Zhou and Sandi Wilichowski were both runners-up.

In the Men’s Division, both Vikram Koganti and Mihir Tatavarti won 22 games each, but because Vikram had fewer losses, he was crowned the Men’s Division Winner.

After doubles play, tournament entrants participated in the Lions Club’s Great Balls of Fire target contest. That format had players use one minute or twenty balls to hit as many balls as possible through a target.

Jerry Lee Lewis’ Great Balls of Fire entertained the competitors and spectators during the contest. Debbi Molinaro was the Women’s Division winner, and Hal Whitehouse was the Men’s Division winner.

The Lions Club raised over $4,300 in donations to fund camperships at The Barton Center for Diabetes Education, which runs day and overnight camps for children with Type 1 Diabetes.
