Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim feels that the upcoming T20 World Cup would be the make or break moment for Virat Kohli’s captaincy career. The news of the upcoming T20 World Cup moving to the UAE from India hasn’t seemed to make much difference to the men in blue as they still look firm favourites to lift the trophy. According to Saba Karim, the pressure is on Virat Kohli to win an ICC crown.
The Indian team has not won an ICC event since 2013 and has frequently choked in the knockouts or final ever since. New Zealand has arguably been the bogey side for them as the men in blue succumbed to them in the WTC final for the second consecutive time. The Kiwis stunned them in the 2019 World Cup semi-final when they defended a modest total against a star-studded Indian batting unit. Furthermore, Virat Kohli has failed to deliver as per expectations in the knockout games.
Saba Karim observed that the pressure is on Virat Kohli to lift an ICC trophy for India; hence, the T20 World Cup would be critical. Karim stated that since Kohli remains aware of not winning an ICC trophy, he would give his everything in achieving the objective.
