“Playing Cricket Under Quarantine Conditions Is Not Very Difficult”: Mitchell Starc

Australian speedster Mitchell Starc is an all-format player for the kangaroos. His last national appearance came back in the historical Gabba Test against India in January 2021. The Australian pacer Starc looks ready for the hard quarantine for the upcoming Test series and marquee T20 World Cup.

Mitchell Starc is scheduled to play one Test against Afghanistan just after the T20 World which will begin in UAE. Meanwhile, the Test against Afghanistan will begin on 27 November, which is just 13 days after the World Cup final. The compulsory quarantine period in Australia is 14 days, if Australia reaches the WC final on November 14 things will be complicated.

However, according to reports Cricket Australia (CA) is trying its best to get some exemption in quarantine rules and regulations. Also during the Brisbane Test against India quarantine rules were modified due to an unexpected COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney.

It’s a very interesting one. I’m sure Cricket Australia are thinking about it and putting plans in place. The way of the world at the moment throws up a lot of hurdles and then you are throwing two weeks of quarantine like we are going to have to do coming back from this tour as well, there’s a lot of question marks,” Starc was quoted as saying in ESPNcricinfo.

“You look back to the summer and we played Sydney under restrictions, Brisbane was under full quarantine so there’s certainly precedence set there in how we approach different games, especially in Australia.

“In that respect, I don’t think there are many hurdles to get around in playing cricket under quarantine conditions, it’s just some of the finer details that government and cricket will have to work together [to sort out],” he added.

Mitchell Starc is all set to take part in the white-ball series against the West Indies. The series between Australia and West Indies is scheduled to start from 9 July. As expected Starc is named in the shortest format as well in the ODI squad. He is expected to give his best performance in the T20 World Cup and the subsequent Ashes series.
