The schedule for Illinois State’s Cancun Challenge games has been announced, as the Redbirds will face off against local foe Saint Louis on Tuesday, November 23 in a 7:30 p.m. CT tip-off at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.
In addition to the game against Saint Louis and the subsequent game against either Buffalo or Stephen F. Austin on November 24, the Redbirds will host Bucknell on Saturday, November 20.
The two games in Mexico will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. On the other side of the bracket – the Mayan Division – will see Bucknell, Middle Tennessee, Mercer, and Rider battle on the early portions of the two days of competition.
The upcoming tournament will be Illinois State’s third trip to the Cancun Challenge.
Games are played in the modified ballroom at the Hard Rock Hotel Rivera Maya; teams and their fans are in walking distance from their rooms to the games to the restaurants to poolside. The men’s event began in 2008, and has been going on every year since with the exception of last year when the tournament was moved to Florida due to COVID-19 restrictions.
