Date set for annual Louisville-Kentucky basketball rivalry game

The Louisville men’s basketball team will shoot for its second consecutive win over arch-rival Kentucky when the two lock horns on the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 22 in Lexington.

The game date was officially announced by both schools Monday afternoon.

This game, of course, is most typically played on the Saturday between Christmas and New Year’s. Apparently that wasn’t an option this season, so here we are.

The last time the Battle for the Bluegrass was played both in the middle of the week and before Christmas was in 2016, when the Cards and Cats met on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

That one worked out pretty well for the good guys.

If for no reason other than recent precedence, I’m fine with the game date.

Let’s make it an especially merry Christmas.
